  • Gang, we’ve heard from some of you (via our customer questionnaire, in blog comments, and elsewhere) that you’re having trouble getting to the companion content for some of our books. And indeed, since we switched distributors in April, some URLs in our books are no longer valid or, if they’re short URLs, haven’t yet been updated to point to the new location of the companion content. But here’s how you can find the companion content in the meantime, and you can always use this method going forward too: 1. Visit our online store: https://www.microsoftpressstore.com/ 2. Type the title of the book you’re looking for in the search box (in this case I’ve typed “excel 2013 step by step”): 3. In the list of results, choose the title ...read more
  • Hello, Dino Esposito here. A lot has changed since our previous post on Microsoft .NET: Architecting Applications for the Enterprise, Second Edition (NAA4E)—here’s an update. (Please note that #NAA4E is the official hashtag and name of the Facebook page for this book.) By the way, as we write this post the current edition of the book is still popular in the Microsoft development section of Amazon—this is an amazing result for a book that was publishing in the fall of 2008. At that time the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy and the subsequent worldwide economic crisis (whose effects are still with us) hadn’t happened yet, Facebook was still second to MySpace in the list of largest social networks, Entity Framework v1.0 was still in beta, Silverlight was the dazzling future ...read more

  • Hello! Karl Wiegers here. I’m doing something right know that I’ve never done before: co-authoring a book. It’s a new experience for me, but it’s going remarkably well. I’ve written several articles with co-authors over the years, which went fine, but nothing like the scale of the book. If you’ve ever thought about writing something with someone else, you might find the story of how we approached this to be interesting. In August 2012 Joy Beatty, vice-president of research and development at Seilevel, asked me if I had thought about writing a third edition of my popular book Software Requirements . The first edition was published in 1999 and the second in 2003, both by Microsoft Press. I had indeed thought about writing a third edition from time to time. While virtually everything I described ...read more
