  • The latest figures that I've seen (presented today at the MCT Summit in Stockholm if you're not here) suggest that there are around 600 MCTs who specialise in Microsoft Applications (and I'm guessing that includes all the Office apps, plus Project, Visio and anything else like that).  I know a handful from summits and other events, but I'd love to start to make contact with more of you, as I'm guessing that we could all learn a lot from each other.

It might be that there's very few around here, but I'm guessing there's a few who, like me, have been 'lurking' for a while in the hope that some sort of MCT Applications community might appear.  If that's you, then give us a few lines about yourself and let us know who you are, where you are and what you do, and let's start it off ourselves.  I'll start the ball rolling:

I'm Mike Gurner, I'm an applications trainer and proud of it!  I'm based in Milton Keynes, England, and have been running my own training business for almost 10 years now.  I provide training in all versions of all the Microsoft Applications, however I think it's fair to say that most of my software training business comes from a mix of Excel, Word, Project and Access, and that's generally a mix of 2003 and 2007, although I've got some clients using 2000, 2002/XP and 2010.

    Over to you.

    Mike.

  • Hi Mike, great to connect with you in Stockholm. I'm in Ireland and have been freelance since 1997. Most of my work is Excel with some Access, Word and Outlook thrown in. Am getting quite a bit of Office 2010 work as people are migrating from 2003 to 2010. Hope you enjoy Stockholm!

  • Hi Mike,

I was also in Stockholm and enjoyed every minute of it. My name is Maurice Ausum and i teach for a CPLS i Holland. This is mostly Office orientated (Word, Excel, Access, VBA etc). Besides that i develop databases and from time to time get jobs that involve SQL Server. I have another collegue that is a MOS MCT. He did not come to the summit this year. Because i did some technical exams i am not a MOS Trainer (one tech exam can do that to you :-) I love working with Office. The only thing lacking here is the participation in the community by other MOS MCT's. Let see if we can get some activity goin here. Look me up on facebook, Linked In, twitter or my blog : mauriceausum.wordpress.com

  • Hi Maurice/AG

Thanks for sticking your necks up above the parapet :-)

Am settling back into post-Stockholm life today, so am feeling a little down in the dumps, but have just signed up for Office 365 to give myself something to think about instead, which will certainly keep me busy!

Let's see if we can get others on board now I guess.

    Thanks again.

    Mike.

  • Hi Mike et al

Maggie Donovan - Apps Trainer covering Hampshire and edges of Berkshire and Surrey, plus central London.  Have been running my own business for about ten years - love training and apps to the point of sadness.  Would very much like somewhere which helps to reduce the disavantages of working in isolation (as there are so many advantages!) such as not being aware of the new innovations, special offers, job opportunities.

Did Stockholm cater more for the Applications Trainer, than York did last year?

Mike - I have been trying to reach you via Facebook, can you get back to me on one medium or another.

Good luck to us, every one!!

    Maggie

  • Hi Mike, Maurice and others,

The Summit in Stockholm was great but lacked IW content because of poor community response. Well, we can change that, or at least we should. That way more MCTs will be attracted and we'll have even bigger Summit!

My name is Sasa (Sasha) Kranjac and I'm an IT Pro (and IW trainer, too!) I'm in Croatia (for now). I'm freelance trainer currently contracted by IT Academy at local University.

I did a lot of Office training in the past, mostly using my own training material. I like Office and I like to bore people telling them I still have an old b/w 10' Toshiba laptop with Word 6 and Windows 3.11 on it. Battery is dead and it has trackball instead of mouse!

I'm on FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, too so feel free to connect with me. I have two blogs, that I have not fully ported yet (so much to do, so little time...) from old places: http://www.sasakranjac.com and http://kranjac.wordpress.com (IT pro and IW).

  • Hello Mike,

My name is Colin O'Flaherty.  I am a prison officer who has been running an IT workshop in Edinburgh prison for the last five years.  I originally taught PC Passport which is a SQA qualification similar to ECDL. In 2009 I made the switch to a Microsoft IT Academy.  I provide training for prisoners to give them up to date training in microsoft office, hopefully to help them into further education or employment on release.I concentrate on word and excel then access, powerpoint and outlook, if time allows.  I do not run structured courses with start and finish dates.  I have students studying all the MO subjects.  I am as most MCT's a useful resource for my colleagues when they have problems with office.  I have not attended any of the MCT events, due mainly to the cost involved.   I have been told that I run the only academy in a public sector prison in the country.

    Bye for now

    Colin

  • Hi

Im Karen Turner, have taught Microsoft Applications most of my adult life, I'm happy to be a part of the Microsoft Certified Trainers community. I can be contacted via karenturner@imaginevirtualtraining.com, I'm on Twitter MS_IT_Trainer and LinkedIn - Karen Turner, feel free to connect. I have www.imaginevirtualtraining.com and on Facebook too as ImagineVirtualTraining with business pages.

I'm a relative newbie to MCT, having finally joined this year after years of training adults to take the MOS exams and working in Authorised Examination Centres.

Anything you're planning, please let me know. I attended the York meeting earlier this year, found it useful and met many other MCTs and Wendy Johnson from Microsoft.

    Regards

    Karen
