I am looking at updating my MCTS from Web 2.0 to Web 4.0 and am unsure of how to go about it.
Do I have to go to 3.5 first? Which exams would be required?
Thanks!
Hi Hacker,
If you hold MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0, Web Applications (exam 528), then your shortest path to get current is simply to take Exam 70-515: TS: Web Applications Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4, which will earn you MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Web Applications.
If you hold MCPD: Web Developer, you can earn MCPD: Web Developer 4 with two upgrade exams. Passing exam 567 will upgrade you from MCPD: Web Developer to MCPD: ASP.NET Developer 3.5, and then passing exam 523 will upgrade you from MCPD: ASP.NET Developer 3.5 to MCPD: Web Developer 4.
You can find more information about each version's certifications on this page: www.microsoft.com/.../cert-vstudio.aspx
You should also see the VS 2010 certification path posted on the right rail of the same page.
Good luck!

I am getting ready to upgrade from 2,0 to 4.0. The tests I have already taken are 528, 536, 547. Can you please confirm if I need to take 515, 567 and 523? I have already registered for 515. Not sure about others.
There is no study material available for 567, 523. How can I prepare for those? Please advise. Quick reply will be really appreciated
Best Regards,
Divya
Hi Divya,
Your path is the same one that I described above. Exam 70-567 will upgrade you from MCPD Web Developer 2.0 to MCPD Asp.net Developer 3.5. (Important note! You'll have to hurry to do exam 70-567, because it retires the end of this month!) Exam 70-523 then upgrades you from MCPD ASp.NET Developer 3.5 to MCPD Web Developer 4. You do NOT need to take exam 515, unless you want to just do the whole new .NET 4.0 path, which is 4 regular exams instead of 2 upgrade exams.
Upgrade exams are a bit tricky to study for--it's assumed that you were qualified on the earlier version, so you're not starting from ground zero. You can use any prep materials for the exams from which objectives are pulled for the upgrade exam. So for example, to study for exam 567 (remember, you need to hurry!), you'll have to look at the prep materials for exams 70-562 and 70-564. My best advice is to review the list of skills measured on the exam product page, and then study up on the objectives that you feel less than confident about.
Feel free to ping me at kristaw@microsoft.com if you have further questions.
