I have a fairly old certification (MCAD for Microsoft .NET) and am looking into upgrading to MCPD: Web Developer (and eventualy : Windows Developer, but I've been doing nothing but Web development for the past 5 years). I've tried to figure out the correct upgrade path, but I'm very confused. The MCPD page lists upgrade paths for MCAD: Web Developer and MCAD: Window Developer, but my MCAD certificate just says "MCAD for Microsoft .NET", it doesn't say "Web" or "Windows"...
1. If I have "MCAD for Microsoft .NET" and I take exam 70-551, will that upgrade me to MCPD: Web Developer?2. How current is MCPD: Web Developer? Does it cover .Net 4.0? Is there a more up-to-date certification?
Thanks!

“Because there is such a change in technologies, coupled with the new generation of certifications, we have provide only one upgrade path. That is from MCAD or MCSD to MCTS or MCPD in .NET 2.0. There will be NO direct upgrade path from MCAD or MCSD to .NET 3.5.”
And there is no upgrade from MCAD to the new .NET 4 certs.

If you are an ASP.Net developer, you might consider the 70-562. This certification exam measures your ability to develop applications using ASP.NET in a development environment that uses Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

Also, the one above is for the 3.5 Framework. If you are on the 4.0 framework, you might consider Exam 70-515: Web Applications Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4 that was just released July 02, 2010
This exam is designed to test the candidate's knowledge and skills for developing Web applications using ASP.NET and the .NET Framework 4.
