  • Just wondering if anyone can recommend some excellent Sharepoint reference and training material.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Jeff

Regarding books, online resources etc. I found the text book below to be an excellent introduction to MOSS 2007 and a super aid to the 70-630 exam should you decide to consider certification.

    1. Sybex MCTS Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Configuration Study Guide [ James Pyles ]

There are also many online MOSS 2007 resources, blogs etc. etc. but one website in particular I was most impressed with was a blog by Heather Solomon at www.heathersolomon.com. Her posts and downloads on SharePoint branding ( Master pages, CSS ) etc. etc. I found particularly educational. MOSS 2010 is now also released to the market and thus whether to go with training and reference material on it or MOSS 2007 is certainly worth time considering. The technologies and skill sets most in demand in your locality are probably the best reference there when making a final decision. I would also recommend you look into Microsoft's online eLearning catalogue. Microsoft offer the following online MOSS 2007 course in addition also to numerous MOSS 2010 courses should you decide on this study path.

    1. Collection 6306: Designing a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Solution

I have not personally sat the above online course Jeff so I cannot comment on it directly. I can say though, that from my own experience using Microsoft eLearning ( SQL 2005, .NET Framework 3.5 - ASP.NET Application Development in C# ) the courseware is excellent. The eLearning experience uses a mixture of self test questions and exercises, labs and reading exercises to introduce and reinforce material understanding. The labs in particular are simply superb. For those who prefer a rich multimedia type experience then Microsoft eLearning is worth investigation. MOSS 2007 / 2010 is a huge product with Enterprise features such as Enterprise Content Management, Web Content Management, Excel Services and Business Forms etc. all being speciality courses in their own right. Begin with MOSS administration and configuration to get an overall picture and following that go with you interests.

    Best of luck with SharePoint.
