Hardware needed for new Hyper-v courses

Most of new MOCs need powerful hardware to run: Hardware virtualization, 8GB RAM, 120 GB HDD......

I have used a portable Sony VAIO VGN FW21Z ($1500) for the last two years which has worked fine for the last year because Sony did not have the BIOS ready for hardware virtualization and it took one year to do it.

So, either I buy a new laptop or I forget about all the new MOCs.

Could any of you recommend me a laptop with 64 bits processor, 8GB RAM, 500 or more GB hard disk, Hardware virtualization enabled?

Courseware library 50028 SCOM2007

Hello,

We are a Microsoft ITA no 700121698.

We have a course running in two weeks taught by an external trainer for course 50028 from the Courseware Library.

We have spoken to Bertlesmanns, who provide MOC and they have advised me to order from my local partner.

We were told to try Prodigy and they cannot supply this courseware.

We were advised to try Microsoft Certified Partners for Learning Solutions.

We need five training kits for two weeks time, have the trainers and the students organised.

Has anyone else experienced such difficulties in obtaining courseware?

Question: how to get MCT?

perhaps it´s possible to get some information about what to do to get MCT in Germany.

First of all:

- what should I do first get MCT?

- is it necessary to take all exams I made (there are 20) again to teach the courses or how is it about.

Perhaps there is a german native speaker here who can explain it to me.

I am trying to do the online training for MCPD but i find the online labs are quite slow to respond and the window size is too small. is it possible to download the Visual Studio projects for the online courses so I can do the labs locally?

I live in England (Southend-on-sea) I have had my MCITP for 1 year now and have applied for sooooo many jobs i have lost count, Companies wont employ me because i have no experience, so I have finished 6 months voluntary work in a high street computer shop 4 months ago and have been applying ever since and not even a interview, would any body know what i can do to get my carer on track and start to work with my qualifications that i have worked hard for not forgetting the money they have cost, any assistance would be good Thanks for your help in advance [:D]

70-648 Upgrading from MCSA 2003 to MCITP

Anyone sat this exam yet?

I'm an MCSA+Messaging 2003 but currently working in a role that doesn't administer servers and has no chance to play. So I am going through the materials at the moment and once finished I'll build a testlab and go through all the new features ect. I am wanting to know how hard people have found the 70-648 exam compared to MCSA and what I should focus on?

Education without Certification

My 15 PC accountancy business uses Windows Server 2008 and Exchange Server. We are located in a regional area which makes it difficult to easily access prompt (and sometimes competent) support. So I am thinking that I should educate myself to a level to handle at least all the regular issues - like routine maintenance, adding a PC to the domain, and implementing Remote Desktop access etc. Assistance to identify an appropriate sequence of education courses will be appreciated. My current level of expertise could best be described as "Enthusiastic Amateur"

Hello,

I am looking for some inspiration please - I would like to get trained up to MCITP level, however I am unsure as to the correct route?

I have used MS systems since Windows 95 and have always been interested in computing, software and particularly hardware configurations, but when I go to the MS certification website all I read is:

Prerequisites - two years using Microsoft Exchange Server in an environment blah blah blah.....

Well can someone explain to me how you get a job doing that if you cant get trained on it first? Employers wont give you a job if you havent got the Quals, so its a bit chicken and egg really.

All I want is a clearer path to follow to enable me to gain MCITS in Server 2008/10?

Any stories of how people got into their jobs in this field please enlighten me!

I'm using 6461A-LON-DEV-01 to study Exam 70-503 Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 - Windows Communications Foundaton. (I know, I'm behind the times, but bare with me.)

It has been going swimmingly.

But my Windows Activation notification has suddenly appeared. Maybe I've been doing this course for 3 months, I can't remember. I don't want to just reset it back, as I'm mid-way through some labs. Is there a way to activate my VM Windows Vista?

Certification not on Transcript

I completed the upgrade exam (70-292) to upgrade my MCSA 2000 certification to MCSA 2003 in August of 2007.

The completed exam shows on my transcript; however the 2003 Certification/ Version does not show under the credentials achieved. Only MCP and MCSA 2000 is shown.

Also when I attempt to order or download a certificate, I can only choose from MCP and MCSA 2000.

Why can't I choose MCSA 2003? Should MCSA 2003 be displayed on my transcript?

I have sent several emails in regards to this; however I always get told to wait 48 hours for it to be investigated.

I never hear anything back and my transscript remains unchanged.

Any ideas?

Win XP PRO SP3. Trying out file sharing by Using Access Control List to share a folder

Hi, I'm new to networking. I have two PCs. One is running Windows XP Pro SP3. The other is running Ubuntu.

I wanted to share files between them both. I decided to share a directory on my Windows box. I disabled Simple File Sharing. And shared the directory the other way; I think it's the one where you configure Access Control List (ACL) for each shared disk or folder.

Anyway, I created a new user on my Windows XP box with an account type of "limited" instead of "computer administrator". I added him to the list of users to be able to share the directory I wanted to share. Everything went fine.

Then, I sat in front of my Ubuntu computer and was able to access the files in the shared directory using the "limited" user I created on XP.

My questions are due to the fact that I haven't played with networking before and didn't realize some things. I didn't realize I'd be able to:
- play movies on my Linux box that were in the shared directory on XP.

How is that possible? I am using VLC movie player in Ubuntu.

Exam 70-511 Reading

I have a BSCS and have written some programs in C# but never had any Microsoft certifications. I have been looking at obtaining a VS 2010 windows developer certification (Exam 70-511). There is class for this certification, 10262A, but the class doesn't appear to be available in my state. So does anyone have an unofficial reading list for the exam 70-511?

Study Material for the MCSE exams?

Seems like each exam I take and have passed (70-290 and 70-291) at least 50% of the questions are on material or situations that I have not studied or seen before. I have followed the learning plans set out by Microsoft Learning to a tee, as in taken the classes, purchased the recommended training kit books (by Microsoft press) etc. Plus I have purchased study guides, Q & A's and preparation labs from both Actual Exams and Testking. After spending 3 months every night reading and studying all the materials thoroughly for each exam I take the actual exam and wonder what am I missing? Like I said I do pass each exam but due to educated guessing as opposed to actually knowing. I don't like that feeling and would like to find study materials that cover whats on the exams better.
I don't want cheats I want to learn the curriculum so I understand it all and can perform well on the job, but I also want to know what I need to know for the exams as well.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as study materials that covers what is on the exams as well please?

So, let me begin by saying I do not have any certifications. I am looking to get my MCITP: DBA. I like the description, it would fit my personality and I am set on it as the one I am interested in. My questions is, do I need to have any other certifications to earn the MCITP: DBA? Also, where do I start, what materials should I begin with, what tests should I prepare for?

I am supremely excited about this as a career path and want to get started ASAP, does anyone have some advice for me? I am somewhat technology literate so I am not a novice, but I am a begginner in the professional field. Thank you all in advance for your help and guidance.

Converting a Cobol programmer to a .NET ninja

Is there anyone out there that can help develop a road map to getting a Cobol programmer to a point of being a .NET MVC ninja?

My team is in a transition where we are migrating away from a legacy mainframe and toward the web. We already have an MVC application up and running but is maintained by existing "ninjas" on the team. I want to give a boost to my capacity and bring along my developers that have mainframe backgrounds.

Is there a Microsoft certification path that they could go through to at least have the book knowledge to get over this hurdle?
