This month’s free 3 hour event features session from:

    J. Peter Bruzzese - “How VDI is Just Like Your Keurig Coffee Maker”

VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) is the new buzzword within the IT industry with promises of return on investment, easy end-user setup and management, centralized administration and more.  Some of it is hype, some of it is true.  This session will help you learn the basics of VDI and look at the various components that make it work from the storage and virtualization platform all the way down to the end-user client (fat, thin or zero clients).  By the time we finish you’ll know if this is something you want to invest your time and budget into and you’ll be more confident in discussing it with others and recommending paths for those who trust your expertise on matters relating to IT.  We’ll make sure you have the knowledge that allows you to speak like an expert and encourage moves that are smart for your organization.  And, if you do decide it is worth making the move to VDI, we’ll steer you in the right directions to help keep it from becoming a money pit like it has been for so many others taken in by the bright lights and big city of virtual desktop promises.

Ed Liberman - “Delivering Applications to Mobile Workers Using RD Gateway”.

There are plenty of reasons to support users connecting from outside the office network. There are also plenty of ways to support them.  But VPN Clients are a pain, and DIrectAccess requires IPv6 among other technicalities.  Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2008 R2, however, is a simple solution you can implement today.  Using RDS’ Remote Desktop Gateway, you can connect not just to VMs or sessions but to any computer that accepts incoming RDP connections, even from unmanaged computers. In this session, Ed Liberman explains how to use RD Gateway to enable mobile workers along with the best practices for doing so.

Following the session, associated certifications and related career opportunities will be discussed.

On Wednesday, we will welcome MCTs and Educators to our Virtual Summit; 10 hours of trainer readiness. The theme for the summit is 'INSPIRE' (as good trainers teach, but great trainers inspire:-)). We will dive into new technology, we'll work on soft skills and I look forward to a great session on 'how to create elearning'. We will also look at a few new courses. This year, readiness summits will be shorter (than the 125 hour marathon we did last year :-)) but also much more frequent.

Then on Thursday, the Microsoft Certified Career Conference is finally here. In numbers, that means  a total of 34 hours 'on the air', most times with 3 sessions simultaneously, 50 sessions,  and 2 clocks counting down. This morning, the career conference celebrated another cool number; over 2000 attendees from 110 countries now registered. But it is not about numbers, it is about people. People working on their skills, people meeting other people and forming alliances. It's amazing what you can do these days with just a few PCs and a lot of talented friends who will help build, speak and who have brought us some great ideas :-).
