According to the PDF released that details the changes in the 70-486 exam, Section 1 " Configure State Management" now has sub-task
(in-process and out of process state management, ViewState)
Have I missed something here, or is ViewState only applicable to WebForms, not MVC?
In ASP.NET, ViewState is an important component for providing state management, even though it is only available for ASP.NET Web Forms. It's important to understand the difference of using ViewState and not using it.

Agreed, and good web devs should know about it, but do you think it belongs in an MVC Exam?
I cannot speak directly about what might or might not be on this exam because of the NDA. Given that, understand that state management is a component of the ASP.NET infrastructure. As such, you are expected to understand how you would use state management within your ASP.NET applications., so you need to understand about all aspects of state management and what would be best for the particular application that you are developing.
Well, in any case, I passed the exam today :) :)
