(Training Guide) VS (Exam Ref)

  • Hi there,

    What is the difference between:

1- Training Guide: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3

2- Exam Ref 70-480: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3

    ?

    Thanks,

    Abdullah

  • apart from the fact the Exam Ref is not available yet (due November)?

I cant be sure, but I think the Exam Ref is specifically designed to prep for the exam so covers the topics that are needed, whilst the Training Guide is a bit more generic and may cover some areas not in the exam, and miss or not go in to detail on some areas that are in the exam.

The Introduction of the Training Guide states the following:

This training guide is designed for information technology (IT)

professionals who develop or plan to develop HTML documents such as

webpages or Windows Store applications. It is assumed that, before you

begin using this guide, you are familiar with web development and common

Internet technologies. This book covers some of the topics and skills that are the subject

of the Microsoft certification exam 70-480. If you are using this book to

complement your study materials, you might find this information useful.

Note that this book is designed to help you in the job role; it might not

cover all exam topics. If you are preparing for the exam, you should use

additional study materials to help bolster your real-world experience. For

your reference, a mapping of the topics in this book to the exam

objectives is included in the back of the book

    Hope that helps.

  • Great posts Abdullah and Martin - very useful!

  • Your welcome Steve. Glad you found it useful.

  • You're welcome Steve

  • I bought the kindle version of the Training Guide.  It's very good with 1.) practice questions after each lesson of the chapter and then 2.) the answers to all the lessons at the end of the chapters.  It has step-by-step instructions for exercises too.  However, at the very beginning of the book, the author writes the following excerpt.

"If you are preparing for the exam, you should use additional study materials to help bolster your real-world experience. For your reference, a mapping of the topics in this book to the exam objectives is included in the back of the book."

  • I also bought the training guide to study for the test, and the caveat from the author that Darian mentions is exactly why I wrote my own prep materials
