Microsoft, Pearson VUE partner to make exam-taking and scheduling more convenient

Carrie Francey (Microsoft)

At Microsoft, we’re committed to giving you powerful computing, at any location and on any device. That principle applies to training, too: it should be just as convenient for you to learn how to make the most of our products and gain valuable certifications. So I'm pleased to tell you that effective September 4, 2014, we are partnering with Pearson VUE and taking advantage of Pearson VUE's world-leading network of testing centers. Beginning at the start of 2015, Pearson VUE will become our sole test provider.

You’ll see a slew of benefits from this partnership. First and foremost, it will become much more convenient for candidates to take Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams thanks to Pearson VUE’s extensive network of testing centers in training centers, academic institutions, corporations, U.S. military installations, and many other locations around the globe.

We’re also introducing a personalized candidate experience to make it easier to schedule and take exams. On our web site, you’ll find one-stop scheduling, recommendations on relevant training courses and study resources, and customized offers for continuing on to your next stage of Microsoft certification.

Another benefit of the change is that Pearson VUE’s test centers provide security measures that ensure skills testing integrity. Candidates are photographed and asked to provide a digital signature, in addition to other identification and admission requirements. The photograph and signature become a permanent part of each candidate’s Microsoft certification record.

To take an exam at a Pearson VUE testing center, you will need a Microsoft Account (formerly known as Live ID). You’ll also need to create a profile at microsoft.com/learning, even if you plan on registering for an exam by phone or in person, so that we can ensure your certification and learning activities stay in sync.

Through December 31, 2014, you still have the option to take exams at Prometric testing centers, as you have in the past. There's no change to the exam registration process with Prometric.

Effective January 1, 2015, Pearson VUE will be the sole provider of our certification exams.

We believe our partnership with Pearson VUE is a big step forward for our MCP community. Your commitment to continuous learning and professional development fuels us to do more and better. We will have more new capabilities to announce in the coming months. Today, I invite you to log in at https://www.microsoft.com/learning and see the new experience for yourself. Good luck on your next Microsoft certification milestone!

Nice to see this news finally made it to the born to learn portal after three months. When the news broke on the 2nd June the cheers were heard far and wide. I've scheduled my first exam through the new interfaces and it is very intuitive and slick. I can't wait to see the exam.

It only took 7 years but we got there :-)

Has it really been 7 years since we could last use Pearson VUE?  It didn't seem like that long ago...

@oynx - Thanks for paying attention to our news. :)  This week's announcement is focusing on the fact that we're now "open for business" with Pearson VUE, and I'm so glad to hear you've found the new scheduling experience so positive. Good luck on your exam!

    Hi Carrey,

Thanks for this post sincerely it is a great development, we 're eagerly awaiting this development and effectiveness of VUE as Microsoft Exam provider.

However, I will love to ask if MCT 'VOUCHER' discount will be relevant or there is going to be another voucher for VUE and what should we expect in examination sync with Prometric testing center and Pearson VUE testing center, also will MCTs be able to pay directly to VUE irrespective of their country of residency or exam location?

    Success.

    Sina

I have created a profile at microsoft.com/learning, but can't schedule the 70-533 at PearsonVUE, I only see the Prometric option.

Typo in 6th Paragraph, should be 2014 instead of 2104.

engedib's link makes me pine for the days of "Booth babe and a geek".

Also, no one will miss Prometric, so good move on MS's part.

@Salam - If you use the Microsoft Account associated with your MCT certification when you register for exams on-line, we'll automatically detect your MCT status and apply your 50% discount at checkout. No more vouchers, and no more limits. Take as many exams as you like. (If you're an MCT Alum, stay tuned--we'll have your discount activated by the end of the calendar year. In the meantime, you can still use your vouchers with Prometric.)

@brent_morris - MOS exams are taken at Certiport testing centers. Please visit www.certiport.com to find a location near you.

@Veronica Sopher: Are the "vouchers" at Pearson VUE a double-shot like it used to be on Prometric? (I don't think they are anymore at Prometric, I can't even find out if they are)

  • Veronica Sopher - Microsoft
    |

@Damien - Currently, there is no "Second Shot" promotion in market. Future exam discount offers, if any, will be announced here on Born to Learn, in newsletters, and via our social channels.

It's very interesting looking an the link that engedib provided.  I remember when Trika made that post people were not very happy.  Comparing the pages and pages of complaints about the switch to Prometric only is very interesting when you look at the small, yet positive response of going back to Vue.

Some training attendees were given Prometric vouchers for exams that are valid to end of May 2015. What with those vouchers? As from 1st January there would be no Microsoft exams at Prometric?
