To help MCITP: SQL Server 2008 credential holders upgrade to MCSE: Data Platform and MCSE: Business Intelligence certifications while staying current with upcoming release of SQL Server 2014, upgrade exams 70-459 and 70-460 will be updated on May 15, 2014 to cover solutions based on both SQL Server 2012 and 2014 products.
Upgrade exams 70-457 and 70-458, which are used to upgrade to the MCSA: SQL Server 2012 credential, will remain in market without alterations.
Details on the exam updates, in the form of side-by-side comparisons of exam objectives, are now available for review through the "content covering SQL Server 2014" link in the Skills Measured section of each Exam Detail web page:
Whether you have started on the path to earning your certification or are just about to begin, we recommend that you continue moving forward. For certifications on SQL Server 2012, the exams you take now will still count towards your certification.
For the latest information on upcoming changes to the certifications and related exams, please review our SQL Server FAQ.
My Certificate Planner is showing some strange stuff for "MCSE: Data Platform" (mycertificationplanner.one.microsoft.com/.../1461), like incomplete "Certification in MCSM: Data Platform" and "Masters Only MCSE Data Platform Manual Qualification"
Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass this data on to the product management team. In the meantime, I suggest that you follow up with your Regional Service Center to address the options that show up for your account.
About a year ago, I started with the certification upgrade path to upgrade my Database developer 2008 and Bussiness intelligence developer 2008 certifications to SQL Server 2012. I have passed exam 70-457 since then.
So as I understood, if I want to start upgrading my certifications to SQL Server 2014, I have to pass exactly the same exams as planed before, when 2012 was the actual version? (70-458,70-459,70-460) Meaning, my 70-457 pass a year ago is still valid?
Yes, your 70-457 pass from 1 year ago is still valid. In fact, neither 70-457 and 70-458 were modified with SQL Server 2014 content. For the upgrade paths, only 70-459 and 70-460 were enhanced with 2014 content.
Good luck with completing your path.
