Well, hello there!

Well, hello there!

Laura Martelli (Microsoft)

Hi All!

This is Laura, I’m the new gal on the Microsoft Learning Assessment and Certification Exams (ACE) Team. So I’m basically the last  to join the blog wagon but I thought it would be fun if you joined me on my journey  as I learn what I’ll be doing here at Microsoft Learning Experiences.

I’m a Project Manager for the ACE team; in short, I help ship certifications out of the door to you. Now, in reality, this sounds super simple, right? Well, not so much. Microsoft is extremely serious about ensuring that our exams are available to candidates as soon as the technology is available and that they remain up to date and valid over time. That means that my job gets complicated in a sea of project schedules, vendors, etc.  which is sometimes extremely overwhelming and scary as a new hire.

What am I looking in this job? Well, the picture will tell you what is my aspiration…

Now about me, things I like: family, dogs, shopping, reading, traveling, eating out, dancing, shoes and purses…There is a say that says that a picture is worth more than a thousand words so below a couple of snapshot that would tell you more:

OK, I don’t want to bore you with my ramblings but I do have one ask from you since I’m hoping we can learn together. Drop me a comment and tell me what you want to know: Are you curious about something that we do in Microsoft Learning Experiences? Do you like videos? Pictures? Hablamos español? Yo también! In summary, all comments are welcome!

Cheerios and talk to you soon!

Laura

    Welcome to the team.

These comments tend to be fairly negative and for good reasons. I hope you can help bring about some positive changes.

    Hi Laura! Welcome!

@Laura, my experience has been that although feedback is solicited and acknowledged, no action is visible or communicated to the community. This gives candidates the feeling that you only ask for suggestions to patronize, not to improve.

We have all been giving feedback, but I think the most critical change would be to speak directly to each bit of feedback in an honest way. If you cannot do something, say way. If you won't do something, say what you are doing instead. False sincerity quickly fades when actions are never taken.

@Jason, thank you for the advice! I promise I will be honest, otherwise you can call me on it :)

Nice to meet you, I am a big fan of the virtual academy site, so naturally videos are always welcome.

I would like to see technet articles, guides and learning objectives for example presented in a downloadable / printable format as I prefer to read off paper. I sat 74-409 which did not go well due to being unprepared for the scenario based questions, partly becuase the mva questions did not feature any questions like this. Actually a function to retake the questions in a review mode after having completed them would be a useful addition also as by the end of the course one might not recall what was covered. On a side note I think that the new questions in the exams where you drag answers into the correct order are dreadful.

    Just my 2 cents!

    (EspaƱol? Piqued already)...

... and yes, anything and everything to help me cram for the ALM (70-496/497/498) will be sincerely appreciated, seems like it's not the most popular program here - yet I just pledged to have them taken care of by the Summer, as part of my work's personal development program.

    Saludos!

Hi Laura, I've got a question for you! - Laura why the Microsoft Learning Experiences Team don't have the Web Development Fundamentals Course in the Microsoft Virtual Academy? - I'm a Microsoft Student Partner and a Microsoft Certified Specialist - Web Developer! - I think you should work on it! - By the way, I like your life style and I am happy for your new job! Congratulations! - thank you!
