Who Wants a Kindle? Coming Soon: dMOC on a Kindle

Bob Caswell (Microsoft)

Hi Born to Learn readers! While this isn't officially launching till next week (Learning Partners, keep an eye out on Campaign Factory), we thought we'd give you a sneak peek today. Check out the below videos. More details coming soon...

Nice! What about including the .epub files?

    Hi Elias,

This promo provides dMOC in both PDF and .MOBI (Kindle). The .epub format is something we're looking into for the future of digital MOC (though there is nothing to announce on that at this time).

This is an excellent example of Microsoft being able to leverage its partnership with Amazon to provide Learning Partners and their students with new and innovative ways of learning at a great price! For over two years now we have offered digital versions of our courses (digital Microsoft Official Courseware - dMOC) but the feedback was that partners and students also wanted a more complete solution so this is a bundle of courseware, exam voucher and a Kindle for people taking selected instructor-led courses from one of our Microsoft Learning Partners. E-Books allow learners to search through the text, add bookmarks, highlight sections and take notes plus you don't have to lug around a huge book :-)

Bob Caswell, Matt Rush and team having been working on this for a while so it is great to see it finally rolling out!

    Sincerely,

    Ben

This is a huge win for both Microsoft and Amazon. We've been using Kindle's in our training environment for over a year now and have found they are a huge win for staff. When can we get access to these?

    Hi Reed,

Glad to hear you've been having success with training and Kindles. Details about this particular promotion are currently scheduled to go live sometime next week. Campaign Factory is where all the info will be, but we'll also be posting about it here on Born to Learn.

What about students with legacy Kindle or that already have a Kindle - will they be able to leverage those in classes?

Thiis is by far one of the coolest things you did in past few years! Great idea! Thanks for this!

Thanks for the feedback! To answer a pending question, at this time the Kindle optimized versions of dMOC will only be available to those students who are a recipient of the Kindle provided as part of this promotion (more details coming soon). The Kindle formatted dMOC will not be available separately. Also, should have mentioned as part of the teaser, this will only be available in the US at this time.

any particular reason why just US? Ok .. just at least make the digital MOC available for ordering outside US !! And maybe realize one important fact  .. there are few more countries around the world than just US !!

I am dissapointed now. This should be available to MCTs in any country, not just US. There is no reason to restrict Kindle versions to single country.

Hi Mark & Marin, there are plenty of logistical challenges in offering this promotion outside of the US (i.e., the promotion of Learning Partners getting Kindle-formatted dMOC preloaded on Kindles that they can then offer to students). However, in terms of getting MCTs access to the Kindle-formatted dMOC specifically for their own MCT prep use only... I'm looking into this now and will see if we can make it available to all MCTs. No promises (yet), but we will look into that possibility and will get back to you with an answer.

Dear Bob, I dont want to be rude .. but you haven't put any deep thoughts into such a excuse, did you? Logistical challenge is an excuse in a case of a digital content like Kindle formatted dMOC?? You can't be serious man. But since I have seen how courseware library works lately I shouldn't be suprised. Its same with digital MOC, it can't be ordered in a lot of countries. One can't see any reason for such a limitations.

Thanks for the info Bob. I think that all MCTs would appreciate access to this kind of material.

Hi Mark, I think this promotion will make more sense once we release full details next week. The short version is that this is hardly a simple release of digital content. It involves shipping physical hardware (Kindles) to Learning Partners, something that is fairly complex logistically. Let's continue the conversation once all that information is available.
