Microsoft Ireland Achieves HETAC Accreditation for its Training Courses & Technical Certifications: A European First

Microsoft Learning is pleased to announce that Microsoft Ireland was granted HETAC (Higher Education and Training Awards Council) accreditation for its major technical certifications earlier this year. The associated Microsoft technical certifications now carry ECTS (European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System) credits and are accredited at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications which equates to Level 5 of the European Qualifications Framework. The ECTS system allows for the transfer of learning experiences between all of Ireland’s Higher Education bodies and, as a result, more flexible routes to gain degrees and further education. This accreditation allows all students who earn a major Microsoft technical certification in Ireland to receive a dual award from HETAC.

With this accreditation, Microsoft became the first provider of international IT certifications to achieve full academic accreditation for its certifications in Europe.

Microsoft plans to replicate this achievement across Europe to ensure that students from other countries receive the same benefits as those based in Ireland. The goal is that all major Microsoft technical certifications carry the same number of ECTS credits that will be transferable across Europe and that these credits are accepted by all European Higher Education Colleges and Universities. HETAC accreditation is a first step in making that happen.
