Have another slice of MCTS--It's good for you!

Did you know that two MCTSs is better than one? Don't believe me? Well, read on.

Today I was looking for something on ZDNET. I stumbled across the TechRepublic 2010 IT Skills and Salary Report. Some of you may have participated in the survey, based on Erwin's post last fall. I cruised through the report just for fun. And what, to my wondering eyes should appear, but this lovely quote in the margin:

"Over one-third of respondents who have a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)

certification hold multiple MCTS designations. Those with multiple MCTS designations

earn an average of $87,041, or $13,000 more than those who hold only one MCTS."

Wow.

If you already have more than one MCTS, congratulations! If not, you might want to consider another slice of pie.

  • Seriously folks, didn't anyone appreciate the pie picture? I'm disappointed.

  • The pie picture is very cute, Krista! :-) but would have gotten more attention if you'd displayed it and its caption directly in the post.

Alas, if only I fit those statistics. Despite my MCTS certifications and plenty more, solid employment (much less at a proper pay level) remains elusive, as it does for far too many Americans in the IT field.

  • Very nice pie :)

  • I have several certifications including MCTS.  I also have some age, so wishing I had a job!

  • Certification is good but does not make salary. Training, experience is the best garantee. I have seen people loosing their jobs in some specific field and grab brain dumbs questions and answers test preps and in less than a year going around saying they are MCPD or multiple MCTS or whatever.

  • By the way, after 12 years of solid software engineering and development, I am just now looking at some MCTS certifications but really just to keep myself learning. Even without them, I won't settle for anything less than 95K/year! You can contact me and I will tell you how.
