What's coming for SharePoint 2010 Exams

I wanted to take a quick moment to let you know what certifications are coming up for Microsoft SharePoint 2010. (And maybe be the first to post on the new Born To Learn!) We’re in the middle of developing four total exams: two TS, two PRO. One TS-PRO track for IT Professionals and one for Developers.

·         70-667: TS: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Configuring

·         70-668: PRO: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Administrator

·         70-573: TS: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Application Development

·         70-576: PRO: Designing and Developing Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Applications

Look for upcoming announcements on beta exam dates soon and prep guides in the next few months. We’re hoping to have the exams live in the June/July timeframe. In the meantime, here are answers to the three most common questions we get around the next wave of SharePoint exams:

·         There are no upgrade exams for those certified in SharePoint 2007. With only one previous TS exam and one new TS exam, an upgrade doesn’t make sense.

·         As you may have noticed, PRO level or Job Role focused exams are new in 2010. The ITPro or Developer TS will be required for the corresponding PRO level exam.

·         We have no plans for separate SharePoint Foundation 2010 exams. There are no successors to the previous SharePoint Services 3.0 exams.

Thanks for your interest! We’re looking forward to these being even better than the last round of SharePoint exams.

  • I have commented on the SharePoint 2007 examples a few times ...

  • How do I get onto the beta exam programme for SP 2010?

  • Yes, take the TS and the PRO and you will get an MCITP credential.

To get first crack at the beta (which looks to be around TechEd), sign up to be a SME in Krista's SME database and indicate you have SharePoint experience. Or, if you want 'second crack', then stay tuned to Born To Learn. We'll post a link to the beta blog when the betas go public.

  • Hi Jim,

Could you please point out the key learning materials since there are no books for SharePoint 2010? Thank you.

  • disappointed about there being no SharePoint Foundation exams. For those middle to small business (which are a large part of a number countries' economy right now) that don't have SharePoint Server 2010, this is a blow. Now their IT staff will have to learn a certification that doesn't actually relate to what they truly do, and the IT staff coming in will actually not know the unique capabilities and (especially the) limitations of a Foundation environment. It is obvious that Microsoft is really trying to distance itself from the Foundation version of the product. My fear is it will deprecate the product to the point where it will no longer be offered by the next version. And those businesses right sized in the Foundation/WSS realm will have to go open source instead.
