SMILE if you renewed your MCT Status

SMILE if you renewed your MCT Status

Tjeerd Veninga (Microsoft)

Exciting news on a Sunday afternoon as we just opened ‘MCT Renewal 2010’. All MCTs are invited to renew their MCT Status at their earliest convenience. Traditionally this is also a time of year where many new MCTs join our program.

In 2009, we focused on the tools and resources that MCTs need to deliver top-notch training. We made great strides in MCT Readiness and we now run monthly MCT Readiness LiveMeetings (known as the Third Thursday sessions). This year, MCTs are encouraged to take advantage of our three day, MCT and Educator Virtual Summit in April and more than one hundred recorded presentations available for download on our MCT Readiness Web site. (MCTs & Educators Register now for the MCT and Educator Virtual Summit - April 7-9, 2010)

MCTs have access to our full range of learning products, receive special discounts on Microsoft Press and O-Reilley (e)books as well as discounts on certification exams. We offer a free TechNet Plus Direct subscription to each MCT and each MCT can now request free Camtasia Studio and Snagit (screen capture and recording software) subscriptions as part of a special offer from TechSmith.

In 2010, we will introduce better ways to stay informed and new tools to help MCTs collaborate and communicate more easily. This will enable us to offer an even stronger tool set for MCTs to prepare for and deliver top-notch training in a more efficient and effective manner.

I’m smiling, I just renewed my MCT and look forward to an exciting year!

I just renewed my MCT status this morning. As a MCT working for a Microsoft IT Academy my renewal fee is included in the ITA program fee :-)

Renewal Tool doesn't like my CPLS Partner ID and so I cannot complete it at this time.

Hi James, I'm sorry to hear this, did you contact the Regional Service Center about this? We have a team ready to support you, all CPLS IDs should be up to date in our system but we can look yours up and see what is causing the issue!

I just sent an email to the RSC. It seem like each year there is some sort of hiccup in the process right at the beginning. As B2L will be down until Wednesday, I will update you then.

    Hi Tjeerd,

I can see that renewal is open and MSL is actively pushing for MCTs to renew right away.  As an independant MCT i am trying to see what advantage to early renewal there is.  I look at this extra money sitting in my account earning interest vs. in your accounts earning interest.  I think I am probably going to wait until the last minute and then give you my money to keep my status active.  I mean unless there is something I am missing somethiing on why to renew early.

    Hi Bill,

Well, we extended the renewal timeframe to 2 months to give you exactly this choice: renew early or late. Your comment is very valid and I will take the opportunity to offer some of my thoughts to others who may be asking themselves the same question right now:

    Why/who usually renew early?

-Partners who employ a large number of MCTs- these partners take us up on the bulk payment option and pay for X MCTs in one go, their MCTs then go through the Enrollment tool and update their contact details etc.

-Partners and MCTs in countries where company credit cards are uncommon. In many countries, companies prefer paying invoices and their employees do not have credit cards. This is a much slower process, some have a 45 day payment policy, international banking these days will take as much as 10 days to transfer money, that means payment can take 55 days...

-People who just like to get things done early, after all it's an annual program, the only way to really save money is to not renew at all for at least a full year :-)

When should your renew? Well, we introduced some benefits during the year, you will still have access to these and you should not feel pressured into renewing because of benefits. I would renew at a time that you feel will allow you to make payment etc. and have your application processed in time to avoid an interruption to your benefits or an interruption on your transcript. Make sure your application is processed and approved by April 30th and you will not experience any interruption of program membership.

We simply hope and trust that you see enough value to renew, whenever that fits your cashflow and budgeting best! Please let me know if you have further questions

    Hi Gerald,

YES, we will offer MCTs a new TechNet subscription in the new MCT year. Soon after your renewal application (or new enrollment) goes through, you will receive an email with full details on your TechNet Plus Direct account.

Any cost discounts for having MCT for years?  educators?  Government?
