We’ve been getting a lot of questions about what MSL has planned in the way of certification exams in 2010. As many of you know Microsoft’s fiscal year ends in the middle of the year so there are still quite a few details that are being worked out as part of our “yearly” planning. That said, here is a quick list of technologies that will have exams released over the next year or so:
Small Business Server
Essential Business Server
Systems Center
SharePoint (both developer and ITPro)
Communications Server
Visual Studios
Team Foundation Server
Forefront
Office
Project
This is not an all-inclusive list for 2010 exams but these are the technologies we are thinking about at this point in the year.
Another common question we’re asked: "Will there be an exam to upgrade from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010?"
There are several factors that affect whether an upgrade exam is created. The largest one is if it will really save you time. In this case the Exchange 2010 track is only 2 exams long. An upgrade exam would also mean creating upgrade courses, e-learning, books, etc. All of this, in addition to the overwhelming popularity of Exchange 2003, means that a 2007 to 2010 upgrade exam doesn’t make sense.
Look for more details on upcomming certifications as the year unfolds.

I would like to point out that there is a SQL 2008 upgrade exam. Granted there is no book or other study matterial to go with it. There also is no TK for 70-450 which would be helpful for the upgrade exam.

well i think not making an upgrade exam is pretty bad for the customers purse and much better for yours...
but maybe you can make an offer for those who have to upgrade like:
"2 Exams for the price of one"
that would be cool, especially when we have to upgrade several other products too...

Wow...MSFT exams are still the cheapest in the industry, and they brought back Second Shot too. How easy do you want them to make it?

Speaking of cheap...does anyone know if the 20% off vouchers that were available from MCTs stack with the Second Shot codes?

well they might be "cheap" in usa and several other countries but with 140€ definetly not in europe...
if you have to do all exams for 3to4 MCITP paths every 2-3 years it´s not cheap anymore...

What do other IT certification exams cost in Europe?

Can you provide me details on the "System Center Exam" for which product will the exam be for? It is just a MSTS or MCITP?

If there isn't going to be an upgrade exam for Exchange 2007 to 2010 then the tests need to be longer and/or have more Exchange 2010-only items. Due to product overlap someone well versed in Exchange 2007 could probably pass then 2010 exams without knowing much about 2010.

We haven't finalized the details yet. We are looking at a full track with MCITP credential and assoiciated MCTS exams.

It would be nice to have a bit more details than that. Like which SC product are you thinking you will create exams for? Will 70-402 finally get released Or will be for SCE or SCSM? Understand that SC encompasses a lot of products used from small business to huge enterprises. Therefore if a MCITP is created then I hope (and beg) that it is done right and does not have crazy items like 70-401 + 70-400 + SCSM + SCE, make up a MCITP for SC. Basically what I’m saying is that most SC product stand on their own and any MCITP within SC should NOT mix two SC products to create MCITP cert.

Hello.
Will there be Windows 7 versions of 70-625 (Connected Home Integrator) and 70-626 (Consumer Sales Specialist) ?

How do you plan the upgrade paths for MCPDs from VS 2005 to VS 2010?
And another question - what about MS SQL Server 2008 R2 exams?

They've still got a few weeks for those. I'm dying to hear about the 71-663 results, though. Only one week left until the scheduled go-live date. :)

We don't have any immediate plans to make a Win 7 version however, that is something we actively investigating.
