Update on MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7

We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the EDST, so I thought I’d post what I think you want to know in one tidy package.

Requirements

To earn the MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7 credential, you’ll need to take the following exams:

  • 70-680: TS: Windows 7, Configuring
  • 70-685: Pro: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician

Both exams are currently available at Prometric.

Upgrading

You can upgrade to MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7 from the following credentials:

  • MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician (Windows Vista)
  • MCDST (Windows XP)

You’ll need to take the following exam:

  • 70-682: Pro: Upgrading to Windows 7 MCITP Enterprise Desktop Support Technician

The upgrade exam is planned for release in the February/March time frame. We’ll post something here when we have more specific details.

HDI?

Back in July we announced a partnership with HDI (Help Desk Institute) relating to the Enterprise Desktop Support Technician credential. In November we promised that we’d have more details by the end of December. December came and went. We still don’t have the full details, but I can tell you that the HDI certification will not be required to earn the MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7 credential.

We are exploring partnership opportunities with other certification programs, including HDI, but do not have any new certifications to report at this time. We will keep you updated if and when any new partnerships are put in place.

Windows 7 certification overview

Jim Clark recently did a Q&A with Stephen Rose about Windows 7 certifications that was packed with information. The post title did not include the word Windows 7, so I must confess that I overlooked it. I encourage you to check it out if you missed it.

  • Awesome! HDI "will not be required" to earn MCITP: EDST 7 cred.
  • Thanks Krista!
  • For those of us that have passed 680 and 685, when will this be reflected in our transcripts?
  • I had the chance to do the beta of this exam but because of the hdi exam (and the cost of it) i went for the 70-686. If you had told us before I would of done this exam as well. Thanks for the missed opportunity!
  • haha. i just finished the hdi certification to receive my ms edst....
    lol!

but at least hdi was very interesting.
  • Yeah, I check my transcript few minutes ago, and still nothing there ;)
  • according http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certifi... I pass Exams 70-680 and Exam 70-686 and do not see in my transcript: MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7
  • Is there an upgrade path to get the Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop Administrator?
  • [...] Certified Desktop Support Technician) & MCITP: EDST (Vista) there is a new exam 70-682. Here’s the Link! [...]
  • That's nice to hear, thanks Krista!
  • I also have both 680 and 685 on my transcript, when will the MCITP be reflected? do we need to contact somebody?
  • I have passed both the 70-680 exam and the 70-685 exam (actually, the 71-685 Beta in September). How come I don't have the MCITP: EDST7 credential in my transcript then (and from what I read, others don't have it either)?

In contrast, I have passed the 71-686 beta exam back in September, and I was awared the MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7 credential as expected.
  • Hi guys

Passed 70-680 and 70-685 last year, may I know when will my MCP transcript reflect that I will have the title of MCITP: EDST7
  • Hi guys,
I'm checking on why the EDST is not showing up in your transcripts yet and when it will be visible. I'll post an update here when I get an answer.
    Krista
  • What if you have already taken the HDI certification exam, can it be added to your Microsoft transcript?
