Hi everybody -

Krista asked me to let you know that Exam 70-686-Pro:Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Administrator is now available in Prometric testing centers.

Many of you will notice that Enterprise Desktop Administrator (EDA) is an entirely new role. We’re excited to add this role to our exam portfolio and believe that it reflects what’s going on in the real world.

For those of you who are not already familiar with the term, Enterprise Desktop Administrators are IT Professionals who are responsible for provisioning desktop PCs and deploying service packs and updates to these PCs. They are also responsible for setting the strategic direction for the desktop operating system and applications. EDAs work with other lines of businesses in their company and are responsible for addressing high-end desktop infrastructure needs. EDAs are considered Tier 3 level support and mostly handle escalations related to system and large site issues.

Some of the skills measured by this exam include:

  • Designing a standard image
  • Planning and Managing a Client Life Cycle Strategy
  • Designing a Windows 7 Client Deployment

For a more detailed list, check out the Prep Guide.   To schedule an exam, visit Prometric’s web site70-686 is currently available in English and will soon be published in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, German and Brazilian Portuguese (watch for these in early December).

Good luck!

  • Something else new that your readers might like to know about:

When registering for an exam today, I found that the "IT Academy" exams (same as the regular exams, but at an educational discount price, for select exams), which used to all be designated with a "72"/"072" prefix (vs "70"/"070" for the full-price exams), apparently are now in the process of being changed to use a "73"/"073" prefix instead of "72".

They are also starting to offer the "83"/"083" prefix performance-based exams (which currently so far is only 83-640, the performance-based replacement for 70-640) with a different "IT Academy" exam prefix of "96"/"096" (making it 96-640).

And these 073/096 educational discount exams soon will finally be available for online registration with Prometric. (PearsonVue had online registration for them as 072s, but afaik Prometric has been requiring phone registration for them until now.)

I used to use these back when I qualified to, and saved about 50% per exam. Anyone who's a college student at a college with an on-campus Prometric test center, will likely be eligible. (Unless they've made it more restricted now, you didn't have to actually be in an "IT Academy" official program.)
