“Why should I buy Windows 7 when I can just download it from the Internet?”

“I’m a Mac user… why should I buy Windows 7?”

“What do you think of the conflict between Microsoft and the EU?”

Talk about a tough room… but wow, what a great group of high school students: informed, inquisitive, passionate and appropriately skeptical!

Today the Career Express crew visited the largest high school in Austria (1,300 students) and spent a couple of hours with 100+ very sharp students. It was a welcome change of pace for us, and we quickly put away the PowerPoint and instead told our stories and shared the opportunities that technology provides to students preparing to enter the workforce. With a special emphasis on opportunities for women in technology, we challenged the students to set aside any peer or societal pressure that technology jobs aren’t cool… and judging by the questions and comments we heard, our message was received.

It was our loosest, least predictable, and most fun stop of the tour, and we enjoyed it immensely. Thanks so much to our partner ETC in Vienna for arranging our visit and joining us, and if you’re one of the students we met today, keep in touch: we’d love to hear where your career takes you!
