What happened to "70-640"?

Have the paths to Server and Enterprise Administrator been updated? Has the Certification Planner on the MCP site been updated?

"640" is the exam number and the part that is tracked on our backend. The 70 or 83 prefix is just a code we use to keep track of things. That said, we are in the process of updating all the points where 640 is listed. But that will take some time.

Can you please explain a bit more what is involved in a performance based exam? Do you mean like sims etc?

I have taken exam 83-640 on last April, and got score 900. really for the first time I enjoyed taking an exam. I believe that virtual labs really measure your knowledge and not just some MCQ that people can answer by suggestion.

Thanks Jseymour, seems like a good way of testing real world skills. Just need to get my 70-622 out the way first! Is there any information on what other exams are moving to this testing method? Or are all?

That s a great question! Ultimately, we d love to at least have all of the TS exams Performance-Based. But as you would imagine, they cost quite a bit to build and equip our data centers to handle the load. (Thank goodness for Hyper-V!) We re slowly introducing them as budgets allow. However, realistically, it will probably be several years before we get a majority of exams onto this format.

I just want to say that this roll out method is completely wrong and bias. So, only English speaking people are being held to a different standard. It would have been better if all language versions had been developed, tested, and rolled out at the same time.

Another issue is for people who purchase practice test from companies endorsed by Microsoft, such as Kaplan and MeasureUp. Kaplan’s normal online practice tests are $49, but they pulled the 70-640 in favor of a $159 83-640 package. Now English speaking people get to pay more as well.

I don’t know who’s bright idea this was but those folks need to take some vitamins containing common sense.
