While working the Microsoft Learning booth at TechEd this week, the most common feedback I ve heard has been disappointment that there is no onsite testing this year. Yeah, that stinks. With budgets tight, Microsoft had to make some smart business decisions about where to invest. But don’t count the glass as half-empty yet.

Every TechEd North America attendee received a 50% off exam voucher when they picked up their materials. This exam discount is typically offered at TechEd North America, but historically, only 10% of TechEd attendees take advantage of the onsite testing center. In order to increase the value to the customer and make the offer appeal to more than the 10% of attendees who would normally take us up on it, we decided instead to sweeten the deal.

For people who either stop by the Microsoft Learning booth in the MSDN/TechNet Resource Zone or attend of our Exam Crams or Certification 101 sessions, we’ll give them a voucher for a $25 exam. That’s a $100 discount. That’s a better deal than we’ve offered in the past with the onsite testing center. And the vouchers can be used with Second Shot and they’re valid through the end of June. Beyond cutting your costs, we’re extending your testing window.

What if you were planning on taking your exams while at TechEd? You still can. Prometric has numerous testing centers in the Los Angeles area (www.prometric.com). While it might not be as convenient as taking your exam onsite (yes, I hear you and I will relay your feedback), at least you can take one nearby for only $25.

The glass? For a $100 discount on an exam good through the end of June? It’s looking pretty full to me.
