“I am a Chemist, and I am taking server classes and considering getting certified.” Wow. I was literally speechless for a few seconds when I heard this from a gentleman that attended our “Get On The Bus” session at JCCC. It is amazing to know that technology touches much deeper into people’s life than working as a technologist. Mr. Chemist (Sorry I forgot to ask your name), good luck to you if you decide to take that certification. :)
JCCC serves more than 30,000 students, and has recently become an Microsoft IT Academy. Many of the students who show up are working part time, and some of them already have certifications under their belt. Community colleges often times can serve as a bridge for students to reach a higher education goal, or a career goal. IT Academies, like JCCC, are doing admirable jobs to train the next generation of the IT workforce. With the growth of the industry (it is one of the industries that are growing despite of the recession), there will be tremendous needs and opportunity to fill the positions.
