Well, tomorrow all hell breaks loose when we start filming Be the Next Microsoft Employee.  I’m surprisingly calm.  I’ve met all the competitors and we’ve even had a ‘mini’ challenge to get our laptops ready for tomorrow.  I guess in this case familiarity is breeding comfort.  We’ve all been talking and trying to figure out what the challenges could possibly be.  We haven’t been able to come up with anything plausible, but we’re all pretty sure that they’ll be ‘real world’ kinds of things.  The hard part will be the time limitations.  Do 8 hours of work in 2.  Kind of like one of those cooking reality shows where you just run out of time and then serve the judges runny eggs.  Let’s hope I can at least get the eggs cooked for the judges.  I really don’t think that anyone is going to dominate the challenges.  We’ve all got our strengths, or specialties, and we’ve all got our weaknesses.  It’ll all depend on the challenge and who’s got the experience/expertise to do well.  We’re all strong DBAs in our environments.  But this isn’t home and the comfort level with the systems will be pretty low, I’m sure.  More to come…
