It's a challenge. It's a study group. It's a bunch of IT professionals who are set on adding Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert to their credentials, and they'll do it in 60 days!

Working on 70-642 - How is everyone else preparing this exam?

  • Hi all!

I already have 70-640 and am now studying for 70-642.

Making the most of the Trainsignal material and the following ebooks:

MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-642) Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure

    TCP-IP Fundamentals for Microsoft Windows

    Understanding IPv6 2nd Edition - Microsoft Press

If I still don't feel prepared after this I might consider CBT Nuggets but I do not expect that to be necessary.

How is everyone else preparing for this exam?

  • Part of my plan around all of the MCSA exams is looking to rebuild my home infrastructure. I have 2 Hyper-V hosts (looking to add a 3rd), a separate DC and another separate standalone (thinking of using it for some of the SC roles).

  • I thought the Trainsignal bits were just as good as the CBT Nugget, so unless you're getting them vids for free, don't spend the money.

I found that the MeasureUp (recommended by MS) prep software was really good.  It is like others in some ways, but does a better job at explaining why the correct answer is correct and why the wrong answer is wrong as well as other tidbits.  Also, anything that was discussed in the question provides a direct link to the MS TechNet article to deeper your understand of the test objectives.

  • I am studying and watching videos ion Youtube. Thanks for the advice AKDiscer. I will focus on the Trainsignal training for free.

  • I am also running Server 2008 R2 and other VM's on my iMac with VMWare fusion.
